An Evening with the Stars

Friday, August 29th, 2008 | 10:30pm

Friday 29th August 2008 at Harbours Edge, Darling Harbour, Sydney. The evening was organized to raise funds to purchase a defibrillator for NSW GAA and Cormac McAnallen’s GAC. Over 250 guests enjoyed a champagne reception followed by a buffet dinner. After dinner guests enjoyed Australia’s funniest Irish man Paul Martell.

The sports stars were then interviewed ‘Parkinson style’ by the talented Irish born, Melbourne based sports journalist Catherine Murphy.  The sports stars included:

Peter Canavan (ex-Ireland Tyrone captain & 6 time GAA All Star)
Tadhg Kennelly ( Sydney Swans & Kerry)
Colm Begley (Brisbane Lion & Laois)

Later in the evening the live auction for sports memorabilia and raffle was held to raise funds for this worthy cause.  Along with The Irish Echo, Taste Ireland were major sponsors for the sporting gala evening.  Other sponsors included: Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub, PJ O’Brien’s, Mulligan’s Irish Restaurant, Irish Consul Sydney, Killard Excavations, Fer-Aim Construction and Rocktown.

The evening was a huge success and raised sufficient funds to purchase the defibrillator.
